How to refill ink tanks HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer

Refill the ink tanks when the printer is low on ink.

  1. Open the front door.
  2. Open the cap on the ink tank you want to fill
  3. Open the ink bottle.
  4. Match the color of the bottle with the tank.
  5. Close the tank cap firmly.
  6. Repeat the steps to fill other ink tanks.
  7. Close the front door of the printer.

Place the bottle upside down on the tank and click into place. Wait for the ink to fill the tank. If the ink does not drain immediately, remove the bottle and properly reinsert onto the tank. Do not squeeze the bottle when filling ink. If there is ink left in the bottle, close the bottle properly and store upright in a cool, dark place. For bottles with a colored twist-cap, replace the cap by firmly pushing it back onto the bottle.

How to check HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer ink levels

Ink levels are visible from the ink tanks on the front of the printer. If you are using the HP Smart app, the estimated ink levels of the selected printer are displayed on the Home screen. You can also check the printer control panel or HP printer software to determine when the tanks need to be refilled.

  1. In the HP printer software (available from the Start menu), click Estimated Levels at the top of the window.
  2. In the Toolbox, click the Estimated Levels tab.
